Position Summary
The Regional Medical Director for Marin will serve a dual strategic and operational leadership role. This physician leader will be responsible for fostering sustainable growth, enhancing day-to-day practice operations, and driving business development and strategic initiatives in the Marin market.
Key Responsibilities
- Regional Growth Leadership
- Develop and implement a growth strategy tailored for Marin, aligned with SWBMG's and Sutter Health's overall mission.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to expand clinical services, add new specialties, and engage with local community partners.
- Coordinate with physician recruitment, Sutter Health market leadership, and community stakeholders.
- Operational Oversight - Marin
- Provide daily oversight of Marin-based practice operations. Co-lead with onsite operational leaders (practice managers, administrative directors) to ensure efficient clinic workflows, resource allocation, and performance optimization.
- Monitor key clinical and operational metrics (e.g., access, patient throughput, quality measures, provider satisfaction).
- Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to elevate service quality and efficiency.
- Strategic Business Development - Marin
- Analyze regional market data and trends to inform priorities and service line planning.
- Identify unmet needs and make recommendations for service line expansion opportunities, facility upgrades, telehealth, or other outreach.
- Advocate for resource allocation, capital investment, personnel, and technology necessary to achieve growth targets.
- Build and nurture partnerships with hospitals, community organizations, employers, and local regulatory bodies. Represent SWBMG at key forums and facilitate collaborative initiatives.
- Clinical Leadership & Quality Improvement
- Uphold SWBMG's commitment to quality, safety, and patient experience in line with Sutter Health standards.
- Mentor and support providers in clinical excellence, professional development, and community engagement.
- Champion alignment with value-based care models, pay-for-performance programs, and quality improvement efforts.
- Reporting & Collaboration
- Report regularly to the CMO on regional performance, strategic initiatives, and growth milestones.
- Collaborate with SWBMG counterpart Regional Medical Directors, Market and Network leadership.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure cohesive regional execution.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Board-certified MD/DO with an active CA medical license.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical leadership-medical director, clinic chief, or equivalent.
- Deep knowledge of ambulatory practice operations, including patient flow, staffing, and quality metrics.
- Proven track record in business development, strategic planning, and partnership cultivation.
- Strong communication and leadership skills: ability to influence executives, physicians, and operational teams.

Organization Details
Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is a premier multi-specialty medical group made up of over 200 physicians practicing in the greater San Francisco service area. SWBMG works in partnership with Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation (SPMF), a non-profit organization providing care through its affiliation with SWBMG. Physicians work as a team to provide patient-focused care that encourages a sense of teamwork. SPMF provides physicians with an administrative infrastructure, allowing physicians to focus on patient care.
