The Section of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM) and the Digestive Health Institute of Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) are seeking a BC/BE pediatric gastroenterologist for a faculty position to be located in Colorado Springs at the Briargate Clinic and Children’s Hospital Colorado – Colorado Springs. The candidate will be thoroughly trained and experienced in pediatric gastroenterology and GI diagnostic procedures and qualify for appointment at the Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor rank as a Clinical-Educator in the CU SOM. Primary responsibilities will include outpatient clinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatric gastrointestinal disease at the Briargate Clinic located in Colorado Springs and inpatient consultations and performance of GI procedures at the new 100 bed Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs (operated by CHCO) which is located across the street from the Briargate Clinic. The Briargate GI Clinic and the hospital have full-time dieticians and social worker support and on-site infusion center, laboratory, and radiology facilities. In addition to clinical responsibilities, education and teaching of medical students, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, and others will be an important responsibility. The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of all pediatric GI and hepatology disorders; demonstrated skills in the full gamut of pediatric GI endoscopic and other procedures; excellent teaching and education skills, and excellent communication and team skills. The candidate will have completed fellowship in good standing in Pediatric Gastroenterology at RRC-approved fellowship program (or equivalent), MD (or equivalent) degree and American Board of Pediatrics Board Certified in Pediatrics, and BE/BC in Pediatric Gastroenterology. The candidate will join 6 other Physicians and 4 Advanced Practice Providers at our Colorado Springs location with additional call support and coverage from our DHI team at the Anschutz campus. Colorado Springs is a vibrant city with a metro population of 668,000, located 60 miles south of Denver at the base of Pikes Peak, within one of the most scenic areas of Colorado.
The successful candidate will join an expanding group of passionate, collaborative, dedicated academic pediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists in a Pediatric GI/Hepatology/Nutrition program at Children's Colorado, ranked #7 in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in 2024 (https://www.childrenscolorado.org/doctors-and-departments/departments/digestive-health/). The Section is currently composed of 40 physician and 4 PhD faculty members, 9 fellows in an NIH T32-funded Pediatric GI training program, 14 Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistants, and a large team of nurses, dieticians, social workers, psychologists, transplant coordinators and support staff with the common mission of improving the digestive health of children. Highest quality patient care, cutting-edge research and career development and training are all of highest priority. The Section includes specific Centers or Programs in pediatric liver disease and transplantation, inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic GI diseases, celiac disease, intestinal rehabilitation, aerodigestive disorders, neurogastroenterology and motility, pancreatic disorders, gastrointestinal polyposis and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. There is support for growing these programs in Colorado Springs and candidates with a specific area of interest are encouraged to apply. Salary will be based on rank and includes an excellent benefits package. All faculty appointments are within the University of Colorado SOM, one of the top public medical schools in the nation. The medical school also has a community-based medical student track in Colorado Springs with which all GI providers participate.
